MARITIME LEAGUE OF LEGENDS SET
TO OPEN SEASON SUNDAY

After a long winter, the cars and stars of the Maritime League of Legends Tour (MLOLT) are set to fire up their engines once again on Sunday, May 20th at Scotia Speedworld. The 50-lap feature for the popular Legends Tour, which is a part of the CARQUEST 100 weekend, will serve as Round One of Seven on the series that will see competition at four different venues in 2012. Matt Moore of Falmouth was the winner of the season opener at Scotia Speedworld last May.

The field is led into competition Sunday by 2011 Maritime League of Legends Tour champion Dylan Blenkhorn of Truro, Nova Scotia. Blenkhorn is the most recent race winner on the Tour as well after taking the checkered flag first in the ’11 Season Finale at Atlantic Motorsports Park this past October. The last time the Tour was at the Speedworld, it was Ottawa, Ontario’s Chad Windsor who took the victory last September. Windsor, who put together a string of podiums at the end of the season in an effort to unseat Blenkhorn from the top spot in the standings, will be back full-time in 2012 as the driver of the #61 MacLean Motorsports Legend car on the Tour.

They will have a full field of competitors breathing down their necks on Sunday though as a field of approximately 20 cars are expected to vie for the first checkered flag of 2012. Paul Blenkhorn (Truro), Justin MacNeill (Bedford) and Derek MacCallum (Lower Sackville) all know what it takes to win a championship, whether it be on the Tour, a track championship or a National INEX title. Fans favorites including Kyle Campbell (Salisbury, NB), Scott Cunning (Halifax), Danny Harvey (Lantz), Sean Kirk (Bedford), Tony Gaudet Jr. (Milford Station), Gary Dunning (Charlottetown, PE), Jerry Austin (Westville) and “The Legend” Cy Harvey (Elmsdale) are also among those registered to race this season.

The Tour is full of “young blood” this season. Leading the charge is 2011 Rookie of the Year Emily Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines) as she sets out on her sophomore season. The Scotia Speedworld Legends Rookie of the Year Dan Michaud Jr. (Cole Harbour) is setting his sights on the Tour this season as well. Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) is stepping up from the Four Cylinder ranks to compete in a Legend car this season and will be joined by Scotia Speedworld Thunder alumni Matthew and Andrew Warren (White’s Lake) and Joey Lawson (Porter’s Lake). Former Scotia Speedworld Bandolero champions Cole Butcher (Porter’s Lake) and Shelby Baker (Fall River) will also look to take away the glory of victory lane from the series vets.

The Maritime League of Legends Tour will contest qualifying heat races prior to the 50-lap main event on Sunday. Qualifying action for the Legends and Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour goes green at 4pm. Tickets for the event are available in advance at TicketAtlantic.com, participating Atlantic Superstore locations in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, or charge by phone at 902 451-1221 or toll-free 1-877-451-1221.
