21ST ANNUAL SHRINER’S CLASSIC &
KIDDIE RIDES THIS FRIDAY NIGHT
AT SCOTIA SPEEDWORLD

(Halifax, NS. August 25, 2015) The 21st Annual Shriner’s Classic for the Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman is set for Friday night at Scotia Speedworld. The Classic was originally scheduled for July 24th but was postponed due to rain. In addition to the 50 lap Sportsman feature it’s the final Kiddie Rides of the season.  Also on the racing card are the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero cars who will be running for INEX National Championship points, Chickenburger Thunder & Lightning cars and the Coors Light Trucks. Gates open at 5:00PM, Kiddie Rides will start at 7:00PM sharp so be sure to arrive early.

The Shriner’s Classic is the longest active running race in consecutive years in Atlantic Canada with its 21st edition taking place this Friday. The first annual Shriner’s Classic was held in 1995 as a Street Stock race and was later transferred to the Sportsman class when the Street Stock division was dissolved. Many of the region’s short track stars have won the prestigious race.

Scotia Speedworld and the Dartmouth Shrine Club have raised over $305,000 since 1988, with proceeds going to the Shriner’s Burn Hospital and the IWK Remedial Seating Program. Be sure to pick up your 50/50 tickets at the track on Friday night and support these two worthy children’s charities.

Kicking off the evening will be Kiddie Rides, one of Scotia’s most popular events! The format for Kiddie Rides is simple and safe. Drivers bring their cars to the front stretch and park. Once all engines are stopped, the grandstand gate is opened and children come onto the track and climb into their favorite car.  When all children are safely in the cars the drivers are led around the track at a safe speed by the pace car.  After a few laps, the cars are stopped; the children climb out and proceed back to their seats in the grandstand to enjoy the rest of the night’s events.

The 15 lap Hydraulics Plus Bandolero features this Friday will count towards their INEX National Championship and Scotia Speedworld championship points for each competitor in the field, and will feature the finest young talent in the Maritimes aged eight to 16 years. Braden Langille (Shubenacadie, Outlaw division) and Nathan Langille (Coldbrook, Bandit division) each returned from INEX Winter Nationals in Orlando, Florida with championship trophies - both of whom call Scotia Speedworld home.
