August 19th - Coors Light Night

Coors Light Trucks
Picking up where they left off the week before, the Coors Light Truck 50 resembled a race that would take place at Bowman Gray Stadium rather than Scotia Speedworld.

When all the dust, bent tempers and broken dreams came to a rest, Jason Fenton of Eastern Passage took home his fourth feature win of the season. Fenton rebounded from an early spin after contact with Tony Leonard (Goodwood), who was driving Kevin Clark Jr’s truck. Cory Leonard (Goodwood) brought his truck home in second.

Stephen Ettinger (Kennetcook), the 1988 Dukes champion, making his first Scotia Speedworld start in 25+ years, edged Megan Parrott (Beaver Bank) for third on a restart with two laps to go.

Dan Smith (Lower Sackville), who returned following a violent rollover the week before, led laps in the race before a tire began going flat with ten laps to go. He limped home to a fifth place finish in the 10-truck feature.

Tony Leonard and Darren Bezanson, who was married on the front stretch before the racing got under way Friday, were involved in “bumper trucks” at the end of the main feature. Both Trucks were parked by race officials with two laps to go.

Adam Carter (Lantz) won the heat race for the Coors Light 50 and was in contention for the victory before slapping the back straight wall in the final 15 laps of the feature.

The Coors Light Trucks will return to “the Madhouse” this Friday night for a 25-lap feature. Smith leads the #17 truck by 28 points.

Affordable Fuels Sportsman
While it is great for his championship hopes, Pete Miller (Kennetcook) had another win slip away in the late laps of the Affordable Fuels Sportsman 50.

Miller, who led the most laps, had Travis Roma (West Chezzetcook) tracking him down over a green flag run. Roma would take the lead following a Lap 45 restart from Miller and would hold Miller and the field off on a subsequent restart on Lap 46 to the finish of the race. The win is Roma’s third win of the year and second straight point paying victory on the division schedule.

Miller held on to second as the handle went away on his #92 Superior Power Products Chevrolet with Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake) returning to the podium with a third place run. Wayne Miller (Kennetcook) was fourth and final car on the lead lap as his brother set a blistering pace over a 40 plus lap green flag run. Finishing fifth in the Affordable Fuels 50 was “Mr. Excitement” Kirk Ryan (Upper Nine Mile River).

Wayne Miller and Darren Wallage (Oakfield), substituting for Alex Johnson (Enfield), won the 10-lap heat races for the Affordable Fuels 50.

Pete Miller remains ahead of the field by 21 points over Veinotte with Roma moving to third in points after Aaron Boutilier (Porter’s Lake) and Matt Moore (Falmouth) got swept up in a lap one wreck.

Strictly Hydraulics Legends
It was a night of firsts in the Strictly Hydraulics Legends at Scotia Speedworld.

Danny Harvey (Lantz), driving the #1 car, was the first across the line in the Legend feature for the first time this season. Harvey battled for most of the feature with “Uncle” Cy Harvey (Elmsdale) before the elder Harvey got shuffled out of line on a late restart. When the checkered flag flew, it was “Miss Rawdon Rocket” Emily Meehan, who used the high side early in the race to complete a handful of passes and former Toursec Thunder feature winner Tylor Hawes (Porter’s Lake) joining Danny Harvey on the podium.

For Meehan, it was her first podium finish of the season in the weekly Strictly Hydraulics Legend division. In the case of Hawes, it was his first career podium finish in a Legend car after showing massive improvement over the 2016 season.

For the second time in the season, the podium featured neither reigning champion and point leader Jarrett Butcher or second place point driver Cory Hall. Hall, of Jolicure, NB finished fourth in the race while Butcher, from Porter’s Lake, rounded out the top five in his #53 car.

A total of 18 cars started the race, including Michael Gettliffe III (Midland) and Robin Jongen (Kilworthy), who made the long haul from the province of Ontario.

Heat wins went to the Harvey family, Cy and Danny.

Butcher maintains his head, which sits at 37 points, heading into $20 Carload Night.

Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros
Friday night marked the return to victory lane for two young drivers in the Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros, while one extended his current win streak to three.

All three point leaders in their respective classes - Tyler Hutchinson (Beginner Bandit, Lower Onslow), Nathan Langille (Bandit, Coldbrook) and Sam Rogers (Outlaw, Onslow) - held the checkered flags at the end of Coors Light Night.

Hutchinson made it look relatively easy in the Beginner Bandit feature, holding off Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookies Dylan MacMillan (Glenholme) and Brooke Dowe (Bedford) at the stripe to win his sixth main feature of the season. Chase MacKay (Bear Cove) continued his improvement and was in contention for a podium run before late misfortune put him to fourth. Morgan Mosher (Mahone Bay) got tied up with heat winner Tanner MacLean (Scotsburn) and were scored as fifth and sixth in the feature.

In the combined Bandolero Bandit and Outlaw feature it was once again Sam Rogers picking up the win for his CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series leading seventh feature win on the season and third in a row. Rogers held off Josh Langille (Coldbrook) and Michael Cormier (Grand Barachois, NB) for the win. For Cormier, it was his first podium run at Scotia Speedworld. Nathan Langille was fourth overall and first in the Bandits, capturing his fifth division feature win and first since August 5th. Nathan Singer (Kennetcook) finally threw the monkey off his back for a second place finish in the Bandit division, followed by Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River).

Singer won the Bandit heat, while Josh Langille won the Outlaw qualifier.
