July 14th - Toursec Twin 50s Night

TOURSEC THUNDER

Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) is heating up the track as the Summer temperatures warm up in Nova Scotia.

Matthews, a two-time Toursec Thunder car champion, celebrated Friday night as the winner of the Toursec 50 at Scotia Speedworld. Matthews, who won the feature the Friday prior, drove to the front and held off Nic Baker (Middle Sackville) for the win in the big race. Baker kept pace with Matthews throughout the race but fell back in the final ten laps and would have to battle with Neil Miousse (Kentville) for third. Miousse, the leading Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie of the Year contender, settled for third after the late race duel with Baker.

Tim Webster (Beaver Bank) finished in fourth while Jesse Deveau (Greenwood) continued his breakout season with a fifth place run in the first 50-lap race on the year for the Thunder cars.
Deveau and Chris Hatcher (Beaver Bank) took home heat race victories.

Matthews leads Webster by 13 points and Miousse by 24 points heading into FanFest.

TOURSEC LIGHTNING

Scott Thibodeau (Williamswood) put up a dominant performance to win the Toursec Lightning 50 on Friday night at Scotia Speedworld.

Thibodeau took the lead on Lap Nine and never looked back to take his second feature win of the six race season thus far. The #169 Jet Tools Dodge had to hold off the field on two restarts after taking the lead, including a final one with eight laps to go. “Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax) looked to have Thibodeau solved on the final restart but the power under the hood of Thibodeau’s car was able to hold on for the big win.

Drake, who was not able to complete his victory lane interview because of laryngitis, held on to second ahead of a strong performance by Tom Stewart (Stewiacke) for his first podium run of 2017. Mike “The Outlaw” Umlah (Stewiacke) returned to the seat for the first time in four years to substitute for Steve Matthews (Bedford) and finished fourth ahead of the birthday boy David Jollimore (Halifax). It was Jollimore’s first top five finish since returning to the seat at Scotia Speedworld. 

“The Pit Lizard” Jamie Creamer (Spryfield) and Marc MacMillan (Glenholme) scored popular heat race victories.

PULSE HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS

Dan Smith (Lower Sackville) walked away from the rest of his competitors to take his third feature win of the season. Smith pulled away to take the win over Megan Parrott (Beaver Bank) and Jeremy Hallett (Rawdon). Parrott commented in victory lane she was losing power steering and had to hold off Hallett for second place. Hallett was substituting for Adam Carter (Lantz) in the #24 truck.

Dan Smith, who also won the heat race, holds the point lead.

HYDRAULICS PLUS BEGINNER BANDOLEROS

Matthew Rushton (Dartmouth) continues to rack up trophies in his first Hydraulics Plus Bandolero season as he added another feature win Friday night at Scotia Speedworld. Rushton took the lead off the hop and held it for the 15-lap duration.

Brooke Dowe (Bedford) challenged Rushton for the win but the point leader had to settle for second in the feature. Dawson Noble (Upper Nine Mile River) brought his car home third for the third consecutive feature. Dylan MacMillan (Glenholme) and Chase MacKay (Bear Cove) rounded out the top five.

Dowe won the heat race and extended her point lead to 13 over Noble after four races.

HYDRAULICS PLUS BANDOLEROS

For the first time since the addition of the current structure of Bandolero racing at Scotia Speedworld, a Bandit competitor topped the combined Bandit/Outlaw feature field after 15-laps.

Nathan Langille (Coldbrook) inherited the overall lead in the feature when Outlaws Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow) and Austin MacDonald (Pictou) were penalized for contact under the caution flag and placed to the rear of the final restart with four laps to go. Langille kept composure on the track and drove to not only his third Bandit class win but his first overall feature victory.

Nathan Singer (Kennetcook) recorded his best career Bandolero finish with a second place overall. MacDonald was able to race to third overall and the Outlaw win over Rogers behind him. Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River) was fifth overall and third in the Bandit class. Karting standout Ben Israel was third in the Outlaw class.

Langille won the Bandit heat while Rogers took top honors in the qualifier for the Outlaws.
