Tim's Corner
FOR THE FANS

It’s an event a lot of us look forward to in the season schedule at Scotia Speedworld.

Yes, we have a lot of big events and because of rain, we have a number of them back to back. The Shriners Classic will be run (hopefully, if Mother Nature allows us) next Friday night, the Canadian National Autism Foundation KidsRace is August 4th and that leads into a huge Atlantic Cat 250 week that will start Wednesday and run through Saturday night.

But tonight, we celebrate the fans of the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series, and hopefully some new fans, at our annual Fanfest.

Admission tonight to the grandstands is completely free as long as you pick up a ticket from one of our participating sponsors on your way to the track.

Oh, and by the way the racing has been, you’re going to get every ounce out of your admission price.

The Toursec Thunder and Lightning cars put on two incredible shows last week in their biggest races of the season. Dave Matthews went two for two and now will try and get a third straight win after holding off Nic Baker and Neil Miousse for the win in the Thunder 50. Miousse has been having a stellar season thus far. The former Speedway 660 regular has moved to the Thunder class and is sitting third in points and is the top Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie in the class heading into 25-laps tonight. He’s making quite the case as one of the top breakout performances of the season!

Scott Thibodeau is quickly making the Toursec Lightning championship his to lose. His point lead is 16 over “Rational” Richard Drake who was on the podium with Thibodeau last week. The battle is really shaping up for second overall though. Steve Matthews, who had Mike “The Outlaw” Umlah at the helm last week, is just seven points back with Tom Stewart 14 in his rearview mirror. Thirteen points behind Stewart sits out top Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie in Travis Keefe, ten points behind him is David Jollimore who moved up the standings with a top five run in the Toursec 50. Marc MacMillan and Jamie Dillman are not far off either and are still well within top five contention as we move forward in July.

The Affordable Fuels and Metro Home Heating Sportsman will look to run their third feature of the season tonight. Travis Roma leads by three points over Jordan Veinotte and not too far behind sit Alex Johnson, Chris Dingle and Brentley Pirri, all of whom are within 20 points of the leader. We’ll see who comes out on top of the first Sportsman feature in well over a month this evening.

Can anyone stop Dan Smith in the Pulse Heavy Duty Truck division? Smith leads after his win last Friday night but was challenged early by Megan Parrott before the power steering backed off in the #10 Truck. We’ll see who gets the upper hand in a few hours.

The Strictly Hydraulics Legends. Wow, where do we start here? The finish a couple of weeks ago was wild, but was conducted within the rulebook set forth by Scotia Speedworld. Danny Harvey was in the right place at the right time to win the thing, while Paul Goulden stood with a puzzled look on his face as to what transpired and Emily Meehan was quite fired up.
And those were just the podium finishers.

We had bent tempers, bent bumpers and probably a bunch of other things bent we don’t know about. This Legends feature this evening will be quite a barnburner. Goulden leads the point standings over Cory Hall. Now, I heard a rumor that Hall will not be attending tonight. Not sure if he is afraid of a little competition or not -but hopefully he brings the #08 car to play and put on a show for our fans. He’s a racer after all, right?

I’m pretty pumped to see Braden Langille make his “big car” debut this weekend at Scotia Speedworld. Langille just turned 16 and is able to run with us in cars bigger than Bandoleros, a division where he won a track championship in 2014. Langille was close to winning the Maritime League of Legends show at Riverside and helped prepare Mark Martin’s Pro Stock at the IWK 250, so he has been quite busy. He can wheel a Legend car and he is on his way to stardom in the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour and his talent will be on display this evening in the #51 car Riley Halverson won with on Opening Day back in May.

Tonight is sure to be an exciting night of racing and we hope you can be with us. Make note - we have an autograph session beginning at 6:45pm with the green flag slated for 7:15pm. We’ll have some giveaways throughout the evening and I think, if I heard right, there is a big announcement tomorrow about an event on the Thursday of Atlantic Cat 250 weekend and you miiiiight be able to get tickets to it by coming out to Fanfest! Can’t say much more, you’ll have to be at Scotia Speedworld tonight to find out what’s up.

We also have a Snapchat Geofilter you can use at the track this evening, so if you are on Snapchat, swipe and find the Tim’s Corner Motorsports and Scotia Speedworld Snapchat Geofilter - and let your friends know you are at the only place to be in the HRM on Friday evenings!

Until then, keep the hammer down and we’ll see you at the track.
