COORS LIGHT TRUCKS
Ask Jason Fenton (Eastern Passage) about what his game plan is in the Coors Light Truck class, and he’ll tell you that it is all about winning.

Fenton, in the #3 Cutting Edge Construction Chevrolet, took his division leading fourth feature of the season Friday by winning the Coors Light Trucks 25-lap feature. Fenton once again battled it out with division rival and point leader Dan Smith (Lower Sackville) for the win after the two passed Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie Megan Parrott (Beaverbank) after ten laps in the feature. Third belonged to cagey veteran, “the Legend” Cy Harvey (Elmsdale), who made his return to the series and even roughed it up with Kevin Clark Jr (Goodwood) in the main event. Fourth belonged to last week’s feature winner Matt Vaughan (Lake Fletcher) while Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie Terry Moore (Elmsdale) recorded his first top five of the season.
Fenton swept the night by picking up a heat race victory.

Smith has a commanding 46 point lead on the field with just three races to go, but the positions behind are far from settled as the field will once again take to the track on Friday.

HYDRAULICS PLUS BANDOLEROS
Two INEX championship races resulted in two first time winners at Scotia Speedworld.
Nathan Blackburn (Beaverbank) scored his first win in the Outlaw division in a thrilling finish that saw leaders Luke Ettinger (Kennetcook) and Wyatt McCulloch (Stewiacke) tangle for the lead position on the final lap. Blackburn was at the right place at the right time and was rewarded with the feature victory in the #44 car. Ettinger was second, followed by McCulloch in the scoring order. Dylan Sutherland (Beaverbank; crash) and Braden Langille (Shubenacadie; mechanical) both had issues in the race and did not finish.

Ettinger won the heat race for the Outlaws. McCulloch has taken the point lead over Langille with three races to go.

Meanwhile, Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River) was finally able to close the deal by winning his first Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Bandit main feature on Kiddie Night. Noble, who had led the most laps in the last two features in the class, once again led the most laps but this time also led the last lap to capture his first checkered flag. “The King Commander” and birthday boy Austin MacDonald (Pictou) was second in the feature, followed by Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow), point leader Josh Langille (Beaverbank) and brother Nathan Langille (Coldbrook).

Dylan Dowe (Bedford) won his fourth heat race of the season while MacDonald chipped into the point lead more by winning his heat race. With three races to go, the Bandit point advantage for Josh Langille is now down to 20 points over MacDonald.

CHICKENBURGER LIGHTNING
Deven Smith (Lakeside) has picked the perfect time to get hot in the Chickenburger Lightning class.

Smith, the point leader, picked up feature win number four on the season and second in three events Friday night by winning the 25-lap main event. Smith was chased to the line by Scott Thibodeau (Williamswood), who picked up the pace late in the main event but could not get around Smith in the late laps. Third belonged to “Rational” Richard Patrick (Halifax), who has been making a statement in the second half of the season. Completing the top five in the 17 car field included 2013 Chickenburger Lightning titlist Marc MacMillan (Glenholme) and Tom Stewart (Stewaicke), who recorded his second top five run in the month of August.

Chevy MacDonald (Stewaicke), who made his second start of 2015, and Thibodeau each won qualifying heat races on the evening.

CHICKENBURGER THUNDER
“The Sheriff is back in town.”

Kyle Gammon (Mount Uniacke) scored his second feature win and sixth podium finish in seven races Friday night by taking the 25-lap Chickenburger Thunder main feature. Gammon had to hold off series veterans Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) and Tim Webster (Beaverbank), whom Gammon was quick to commend for their years of racing on the podium. Behind Gammon and the pair of two-time champions included point leader Andrew Warren (White’s Lake) and another former Chickenburger Thunder champion in Stevie Lively (Shubenacadie).

Lively, whose nickname is “Super Stevie” and Kyle MacMillan (Dartmouth), who is known as “The Dancing Queen” each won heat races to set the field for the 25-lap feature.

Matthews and Warren now find themselves tied for the top spot in the standings with just two championship point races to go.

DARTMOUTH DODGE SPORTSMAN
Strike another big accomplishment off the list for Russell Smith Jr (Lakeside).

Smith won the 21st Annual Shriners Classic, becoming a champion of the prestigious event for the first time. The point leader, who took home his fourth win of the season with the victory, outran third year driver Travis Roma (West Chezzetcook) and veteran Dale Richardson (Stellarton) for the win. Both Roma and Richardson had limited practice on their race cars for Friday’s 50-lap event, with Richardson even missing his heat race to qualify for the feature.

The race was rough and tumble at best, and ended with only six cars on the lead lap. Brian Jollimore (Halifax) was the only constant in the top five all night long, staying near the head of the field for all of the 50 laps and would eventually wind up in fourth. Brentley Pirri (Three Fathom Harbour) was fifth while Pete Miller (Kennetcook) also finished on the lead lap at the end of the race.

At least three of the 20 cars failed to finish with apparent rear end/axle problems. Harry Ross White (Noel Road) broke on the first lap, while Phil Barkhouse (Hammonds Plains) and Darren Wallage (Oakfield), who was driving for Tyler Hallahan (Elmsdale) both found themselves taking a trip on the back of the tow truck before the race was over.

Scotia Speedworld veteran Larry Fisher (Porter’s Lake) and Barkhouse each won heat races for the Shriners Classic.

Russell Smith Jr takes a commanding 45 point lead with three races to go over a second place battle, featuring seven drivers within 22 points. The Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman are back in action Friday as a part of $20/Carload Admission Night.
