Pulse Heavy Duty Trucks
After going up in smoke during the season opener, Megan Parrott (Beaver Bank) returned to Scotia Speedworld and made a statement on the first Friday night of the year.

Parrott drove to her second career Pulse Heavy Duty Truck feature on Friday night. The win comes after the team fought motor issues during the Test n Tune and the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series opener. Parrott started on the front row and built a healthy lead in the caution free 25-lap event before two-time track champion Gordie Ritchie (Elmsdale) freed himself from the pack and started reeling in Parrott. Ritchie had to settle for second after giving it all he had for the win.

“I drove it as hard as I could to catch her,” said Ritchie in victory lane. “She’s a good little driver, congratulations to Megan on the win!”

Joining the pair on the podium was former back-to-back Affordable Fuels Sportsman champion Darren Wallage (Oakfield), who drove the #24 truck for Adam Carter (Lantz). Beaming from ear to ear, Wallage said he had fun driving the truck and mixing it up with the stars of the class.

Dan Smith (Lower Sackville), who edged Parrott out for the win in the heat race and Jason Fenton (Eastern Passage) completed the top five.

Smith moves into the point lead by four points over the Carter heading into $20 Carload Admission Night.

Strictly Hydraulics Legends
In a wild, rough and tumble Strictly Hydraulics Legends feature, it was Jolicure, New Brunswick’s Cory Hall returning to victory. In front, Hall and the returning Shelby Baker (Fall River) put on a show for the fans but ultimately Hall used quick timing on late race restarts to solve Baker.

The field could not find a rhythm and after an oil down in the feature and a number of caution flags, the 25-lap feature took over 40 minutes to run. Paul Goulden (Shelburne), who got tangled up with Adam Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines) on multiple incidents, drove through the field and passed the most cars on the evening to finish a strong third. Danny Harvey (Lantz) was a familiar face up front from start to finish, bringing his #1 car in fourth ahead of Wyatt McCulloch (Stewaicke), who made good on his first Speedworld Legend start by coming home fifth in the 20 car field.

Baker and Hall won the two qualifying heats on the night.

Hall and Goulden have built an early lead in the standings over the rest of the field after the first two races of the year. Hall has a three point advantage on his teammate with 13 points being the gap back to Harvey.

Affordable Fuels Sportsman
When it looked like Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake) was set to cruise to his first win of the season, he had to endure one final restart in the final seven laps.

No problem though, Veinotte was able to hold on to the victory, though he had Travis Roma (West Chezzetcook) closing as the laps ran out.

Veinotte made a move early on heat race winner Brentley Pirri (Three Fathom Harbour) and pulled away on a green flag run to over a straight away on the rest of the Affordable Fuels Sportsman field. Roma, who turned up the wick after a caution with seven to go, had to settle for second in the 38-lap feature. Colby Smith (Cape Sable Island) returned to Scotia Speedworld to a third place finish, making a late race pass on Pirri for the spot. Chris Dingle (Elmsdale) was fifth.

Roma holds a slim three point advantage on Veinotte in the standings heading into $20 Carload Night.

Toursec Thunder
Calling his shot from earlier in the day, Middle Sackville’s Nic Baker made good by pulling his #88 Duron Atlantic/Tool in Hand Garage Civic into Toursec Thunder victory lane as a first time winner at Scotia Speedworld.

Baker started on pole in the 25-lap feature and built an advantage on the field in the caution free affair until Chris Hatcher (Beaver Bank) began to catch the leader. Hatcher would come within a bumper of Baker but would not be able to make the move in the waning laps, allowing Baker to cross the line first to what would be an emotional victory celebration with the first time winner.

Hatcher was second, followed by Neil Miousse (Kentville). Miousse is one of the Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie of the Year Award contenders in the Toursec Thunder class and would record his first Scotia Speedworld podium run in his second race in a Civic. Mark Williams (Elmsdale) and Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) fell short of the podium on the second night of the season and would wind up fourth and fifth in the 12 car field.

Matthews and Baker won qualifying heat races to set the field for the feature.

After two races, Matthews, Williams and Hatcher are deadlocked at the top of the Toursec Thunder standings.

Toursec Lightning
Steve Matthews (Bedford) wheeled his car to the front of an intense battle for the lead and held on for his first Toursec Lightning win of the season.

“Mr. Lightning on the Hill” had a spirited battle with Jamie Dillman (Carrolls Corner) in the opening laps of the 25-lap feature. After a caution just shy of halfway for a fire under Marc MacMillan’s (Glenholme) car, the field was bunched up and Matthews and Dillman were joined by front runners including Rational Richard Drake (Halifax), Scott Thibodeau (Williamswood), Darrell Sullivan (Harrietsfield) and Deven Smith (Lakeside).

Smith would turn up the aggression on Dillman in the battle, driving it in deep into Turn Three on multiple occasions which knocked the #158 car sideways on the inside line. One of those occasions resulted in Dillman hopping up the track after the contact, sliding into Sullivan and scrambling the front running pack. The skirmish allowed Matthews to escape with the lead and allowed Smith to take second place, which is how they would finish the feature.

Smith declined victory lane and post race technical inspection obligations, resulting in an automatic disqualification from the event for the reigning track champion.

Dillman would be credited with second while Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie Travis Keefe (Clayton Park) drove up to third at the end of the race. Drake finished fourth with Week One winner Thibodeau in fifth.

Dillman and Greg Snelgrove (Stewiacke) took home heat wins.

Thibodeau will emerge from the event with a three point lead in the championship standings on Matthews.
